Straightening Teeth & Changing Smiles

Whether you are a child, teen or adult, orthodontic issues can pose concerns for your oral and overall health.

While it's recommended that children undergo an orthodontic assessment before the age of 7, some people don't have this opportunity and suffer from undiagnosed orthodontic issues well into adulthood.

The truth is, delaying orthodontics treatment can result in more serious complications for orthodontic health later, including issues with chewing, speaking, sleeping and breathing. Misaligned teeth may also be more prone to chipping and injury.

Fortunately, our dentists in Ottawa can treat orthodontic issues for patients of all ages. During you assessment, we'll examine your teeth and mouth to determine if you're a candidate for orthodontic treatment with braces or Invisalign clear aligners.

A couple of years from now, you could have a proper bite – and a healthier smile!

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces, constructed from either ceramic or metal, are applied to teeth to straighten them. Recent advances in orthodontic treatment have brought us braces that are more comfortable, lower profile and easier to care for than previous versions you may have seen friends or classmates wear in decades past.

How Braces Straighten Teeth

Braces apply pressure to your teeth continuously to move them into their new, corrected positions over time.

As pressure is applied and your teeth shift into place, your jaw bone will change shape to accommodate their new positions.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign's clear plastic aligners are individually customized to gradually straighten your teeth and shift them into place over time, without using metal wires and brackets.

These aligners are similar in appearance to custom whitening trays and come with a convenience factor – they are easily removable so you can take them out to enjoy your favourite foods and beverages. You'll also be able to brush and floss thoroughly just as you would normally, maintaining your regular oral hygiene routine.

Because clear aligners are transparent, they are not easily noticeable, and people may not even be able to tell you're undergoing orthodontic treatment.
